Font Recommendations

I am in the final stage of setting up my dev environment and wondered if anyone had a font recommendation for my IDE?

Thanks

This a bit emotive, a font that looks good to you may look really bad to someone else. I would just experiment with different fonts until you find some that suits you. In the IDE I use I just use whatever the default is.. it looks fine

I like Menlo. Always tried to replace with another one but it’s too convenient (for me).

No one can tell you that, but when I did this bracket font picker thing, I ended up with the same font I’ve been using for years that I had spent a bunch of time experimenting to find.

This thread is more what everyone else is using then I can make a selection .

I do have a reasonably large list but getting some more feedback is welcomed.

Is this orginal a Mac font?

Do you know the orignal authors site?

I am going to start out with Fira Code without ligatures enabled.

I use Fira Code specifically for the ligatures. I think they look neat.

I am at the begining of my journey, so I might use them in the future.

Now got to sort which theme to use.

I’m surprised no one has suggested Comic Sans.

Maybe wingdings would be better

For clean, professional fonts, use Roboto, Open Sans, or Lato. For something more modern and sleek, try Inter or Poppins. If you’re aiming for a formal look, Georgia or Merriweather are great. Always match your font to your brand tone and ensure readability across devices.

@cartdaniel, why did you use an LLM for your reply? Did you even read the initial request? None of the fonts you listed are (monospaced) dev fonts.

very late to this - but where did “monospaced” get mentioned.

I also like “Roboto” for Web pages, had never heard of “Meno” till now. As someone who often relies on screen readers :wheelchair_symbol: it needs to be recognisable!

It is implied by the use of an IDE. You only ever use monospaced fonts in programming so each character column matched up and then characters have even spacing for better reading.

70+ years of doing it all wrong  I guess the world :globe_with_meridians: as I know it has changed :camel: :t_rex:

lol, maybe it is time to try a new font and give VSCode a try
