Error in installing Joomla 4 quickstart

SYSTEM INFORMATION
OS type and version CentOS Linux 7.9.2009
Webmin version 2.100
Virtualmin version 7.7

I will start by saying sorry for my English.
I installed Virtualmin using the script Virtualmin-install. Sh. Everything worked fine.
I created a virtual server and I started installing a quick start version of Joomla 4, everything was okay until I was inserting the database information for it to connect to the database created in Virtualmin.

I’m receiving a " data base error occurred".
I verified all the information entered but nothing.

Is there a way to install joomla 4 on virtualmin safely.
N.B: 'm having a local server

Joomla 4 requires PHP 7.2 at least. CentOS 7 has PHP 5.4.

Please look into adding PHP 8.1 to your CentOS 7 install using our tutorial:

https://www.virtualmin.com/documentation/web/multiplephp/

I installed php 8.1 correctly, but the same error came.

What same error exactly?

A database error occurred.

You need to make sure that the database is enabled for the virtual server in Edit Virtual Server page, and that you’re using the right database credentials in Joomla install script.

I installed Joomla 3 on the same virtual server and it worked with the same credentials that I used for Joomla 4. Which Joomla install script credentials are you talking about please.

I forgot, thank you very much for the time you are giving me.

Is this an upgrade from 3 to 4? There were some really significant changes (as nearly always in a major version change) and the path from 3.1 or 3.9 to 4 is known to be a bumpy one. particularly with extensions and templates not being v4 compliant.

As I always say for WordPress (and any other app) problems like this are rarely caused by the VS or its configuration but by the quality of the app and in particular its add-ons.

I assume your VS meets the technical requirements for Joomla 4

No it was not an upgrade. Since Joomla 4 was giving a data base error, I deleted all the files and installed a Joomla 3 on it, and it worked well.

I think like @Stegan and @Ilia said, I must really check the Joomla 4 requirements. I think I missed something there.

Good luck. From what I can tell most of the problems are not so much the Joomla 4 but more to do with templates and add-ons not being brought up to date (especially with their use of old versions of PHP - now where have we seen that before :man_shrugging:t2: )
