I don’t think that’s any of our business. It’s an OS-level thing, and we don’t currently configure the OS-provided automated updates on any of our supported systems.
You can have unattended-upgrades send you an email (configured in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/50unattended-upgrades) on Ubuntu and Debian.
You can configure dnf automatic upgrades to send you an email in /etc/dnf/automatic.conf.
You will only have have a reboot notification on upgrades, so if you’re upgrading in Webmin, I guess you’ll be looking at the UI and see the notice at that time.
I guess Webmin also has an automatic updates feature, but if you have an OS that offers automatic upgrades, I think I’d recommend you use it.
And, finally, I guess there’s an argument for offering a configuration module for the automatic upgrade systems on our supported systems…so, a Webmin module for unattended-upgrades and DNF Automatic.
@joe I have automatic updates turned off but webmin sends me an email when security updates are available. I thought Jamie might of added the reboot email notification under this option.
It’s not part of the security / package updates email, but you can setup a notification when a reboot is required at Webmin → Tools → System and Server Status.
