e-mail issues

i have a centos os6 64 bit vm running on openvz. I ma having a weird problem.

I am unable to use an external client to send mail to the outgoing(smtp) server:
connect from unknown[73.172.195.40]
Dec 9 18:13:03 web1 postfix/smtpd[5684]: warning: unknown[73.172.195.40]: SASL LOGIN authentication failed: authentication failure
Dec 9 18:13:03 web1 postfix/smtpd[5684]: lost connection after AUTH from unknown[73.172.195.40]
Dec 9 18:13:03 web1 postfix/smtpd[5684]: disconnect from unknown[73.172.195.40]

I am also unable to receive mail to said domains…i get no errors or anything though the mails just vanish. I have not been able to find anything in the logs. Outgoing is fine though. Any ideas?

Directory in which to place saslauthd’s listening socket, pid file, and so

on. This directory must already exist.

SOCKETDIR=/var/run/saslauthd

Mechanism to use when checking passwords. Run “saslauthd -v” to get a list

of which mechanism your installation was compiled with the ablity to use.

MECH=pam

Options sent to the saslauthd. If the MECH is other than “pam” uncomment the next line.

DAEMONOPTS=–user saslauth

Additional flags to pass to saslauthd on the command line.

See saslauthd(8)

for the list of accepted flags.

FLAGS="-n 2"

sasl now fails to start at all complaining about PAM.

Howdy,

What output do you receive if you run these commands:

saslauthd -v rpm -qa | grep sasl

I’m moving really fast at the moment. I’ve nuked that vm and am retrying a different ubuntu 14.04 image. so far I’ve run debian 6, cent 5 and 6, ubuntu 14.04 all with e-mail problems. I am now trying a highly stripped down minimal ubuntu install image. will see if that takes care of it.

ok i have it up and running on cent5 32 bit. I have not tested the e-mail yet. TPNsolutions i’ll contact you tomorrow as i have a series of kids concerts to attend now…:slight_smile:
