DNS records generation create strange subdomain

SYSTEM INFORMATION
OS type and version Ubuntu 22.04.2
Webmin version 2.013
Virtualmin version 7.5 Pro

Hi guys.
So switching over from cpanel a few days ago and except a small mishap with moving the first email account its been great to be back on virtualmin.

I use cloudflare as dns and it works great for the most part. But for some strange reason virtualmin creates a m. subdomain when making virtual servers. and they all seem to go to the alphabetically first domains webpage. And i cant really find from where its making this one and what the purpose is.
This is a freshly installed server as of a few days ago.

any ideas?

Hello @kimasplund and welcome to the community.

This is for web pages which were designed for the small screen of mobile devices - phones and tabs - hence the subdomain m.

Modern websites are responsive so there is no use for that subdomain anymore.

You could safely delete those DNS records, if you wish, or just leave them be.

Thx. i was sort of suspecting that.
but when it did not do any nginx virtual server for it i got a bit suspicious.
where do i get rid of that from getting generated on new domains?

Hello,

This can be disabled in System Settings ⇾ Server Templates: Edit Server Template page, under DNS domain section.

@Jamie, let’s disable m. DNS records to be on by default?

Super.
Does the localhost record have som function in the dns or for virtualmin or i can just delete and disable that also?

Generally, this record can be removed as well.

Ok great.

it also converted cloudflare dns servers to A records. would it not be functionally better to preserve the names of them and use cname? just thinking on how the cloudflare system is built up in general.

Yeah, I’ll remove that … it’s way obsolete.
