I’ve got the email working although the mail address is userName@mail.URL and I would like to remove the mail from the address. I’ve searched for help but can not find any answers that fit my setup.
I have 3 server a name server/web server the slave name server/mail server and a trinity name server/database replication load balancing
The web server is Plesk and NS2 and NS3 are VirtualMin
what I’m trying to do is change the user mail address from userName@mail.URL to userName@url
any ideas on how to fix this? or where to look for an answer
If it is just a few users you can alias them. I’m not clear on how this server fits into your overall scheme. Are you hosting multiple domains for mail?
Did you create a virtual server named mail.domain.tld and create your users there? Why? Why wouldn’t you create the domain name you want things to operate as?
Note that a domain automatically gets a mail.domain.tld alias when you create it, if mail features are enabled for the domain. So, you were already going to get a mail.domain.tld that could be used for the MX record and optionally other stuff), but your usernames would be the form you expect them to be.
Yes I created mail url com and why I did that is this:
the web server is ns1 URL net, the website is url com and www url com plus 28 additional aliases(jobs, edu, crm, members, …)
the mail is served on ns2 URL net and host 3 mail URL com which work
As unique as my system is I know I can get it working as needed
I manage a small network of 7 servers, 2 for testing and backup, 3 NS server(1, 2, 4, 3 is not used but active), 1 radio broadcast server and 1 library server. NS2 and 4 are setup for double duty NS2 host DNS and Mail, NS4 host DNS and database replication/load balancing with NS1.
The library server is a stand-a-lone database server. All servers except the radio server are dot net
Mail is getting sent and received by recipients, the CRM connects and sends but I’m still working on IMAP settings haven’t got that right yet, that’s not the issue this post is about.
Google, Yahoo, OutLook and all mail services accept email but cant’ find my mailboxes.
I’m sure the DNS is the issue, just having trouble finding the answer
nslookup, dig and other tools provide the correct info
mxtoolbox and port test confirm correct
Are you saying that the mail goes out to these services but your server isn’t receiving mail back? Or it gets back to your server and your server isn’t delivering locally? Do you need this dedicated server to relay it back to the Virtualmin machine?
You are throwing a lot of detail in that isn’t needed. Maybe a block diagram of what machines are involved in mail would help.
