I am facing the Debian expiration message. What is the best decision I can make?
Debian 11 is reaching EOL in August 31 2026
Time to start thinking and planning to upgrade OS
The operating system is installed on the virtual server machine by selecting the operating system type in the ISP dashboard. Is it possible for me to upgrade? Will the domains currently hosted on this server not be deleted?
Here is a good place to read and study about backing up and restoring for Virtualmin
https://www.virtualmin.com/docs/backup-and-migration/how-to-backup-virtual-servers/
Here is good documentation for server migration:
https://www.virtualmin.com/docs/backup-and-migration/how-to-migrate-to-a-new-server/
Is it possible to upgrade Debian to version 12 without migration? I want to find a solution in which Debian 11 is not removed, but only be upgraded.
thank you
No. If you try and do an in place migration you will run into many hurdles and it will cost you more in time to try and fix everything then instead of following known migration paths.
Of course it is all up to you but if you are looking for the easy try and just upgrade OS you will wish you followed another path.
thank you very much
