Creating an Alias Server

Webmin: 2.630
Virtualmin: 8.1.0 Pro
Webserver: Nginx version 1.26.3

I have a correctly configured domain abc.com and I would like to have a second domain xyz.com redirect to abc.com, but I cannot seem to get the second domain to redirect when I create an alias server.

The DNS setting for the alias states that it is inheriting the DNS details from the primary domain, but still the alias is redirecting to the Nginx default server.

  1. Does the “Enable Nginx Website” option need to be checked when creating the alias?
  2. Should there be a config file for the alias domain under /etc/nginx/sites-enabled?
  3. How is SSL configured for the alias?
    What else should I be checking?

When you click create Alias Server leave all settings as default and it should all work.
I think you have clicked Create New Server instead

Thanks. I deleted and did it again and it works. I was unchecking the Nginx Website option, because I assumed that the alias did not need it’s own web directory..

In fact, it doesn’t need its own document root. It’s just another hostname listed in the server_name directive of the existing Nginx server block.
