Combining more than one server together?

A basic question, I’m afraid. I made server A as a top-level domain. I copied and restored it elsewhere and made a different server B from it as another top-level domain.

I am now having to move to a different VPS provider and am trying to save money by combining the two servers onto one machine. I have successfully moved A, but if I use ‘Transfer Virtual Server’ to move B it overwrites it with B, not creating another top level virtual server as I’d expected. Import only seems to expect a backup from a different provider.

Is there any obvious way I am missing to have both A and B sharing the same IP as top-level servers? I could create a new virtual server and set it all up manually, but I am trying to avoid reinventing the wheel.

The problem is that you’re restoring a Virtualmin SERVER and not a top level DOMAIN (Virtual Server).

Once you have the new server set up with a top level domain on it, go back to the other server you need to move and back up the DOMAIN (virtual server), not the entire Virtualmin sever.

Then go back to the server you’re moving to and restore that top level domain (virtual server).

On the backup and restore screen for the second server, don’t use the select all. Use the “only selected”. Then select all of the virtual server button at the top. That will back up the virtual server the domain is on. DESELECT EVERYTHING at the bottom on the Virtualmin items to back up.

Then restore that backup to a new virtual server (top level domain) and you should be all set. If you’ve been backing it all up you’re literally wiping out the new server with the old servers Virtualmin settings. On that particular server, the other domain (virtual server) didn’t exist. That’s what’s happening.

Thank you, I assumed I must be doing something stupid along those lines! I was using the Transfer Virtual Server, but of course this is just a backup, copy, and restore automated, so if I move the backup of the second domain over manually, I can then try restoring it as you say without all the virtualmin settings.

I will get all my backups in a row and then give it a go.
