Can't share ip addresses any longer, or I've fogotten how.

This is the second time I’ve run into the problem. I have a VPS that I have one server running virtualmin . It has a single ip address. I added a new virtual server. When I open “IP address and forwarding” I see Network interface with two selections. Shared on IP 127.0.0.2 and virtual with ip Already active
If I do nothing I end up with a server on 127.0.0.2, which is pretty useless if I want it to be known outside of my lan.
If I enter the real ip address in the and check the check box, i get the error “Failed to create virtual server : The IP address is already used by virtual server xxx”.
If I enter the real ip address and DON’T check the check box I get " Failed to create virtual server : The virtual interface IP address is already in use"

So I went ahead and accepted the127.0.0.2 address and tried to change IP address from the Server Configuration menu.

External IP address same as real address shows 127.0.0.2 or a box to change it. I changed it to the actual IPV4 address of the system and it seems like it’s OK.

I know I never used to do this last step. Do I now have to dance around the may pole to add a new server??

Thanks,
Jim.

Howdy,

It sounds like your IP address is already configured on your server.

The next step is to go into Addresses and Networking -> Shared IP Addresses. There, you can make any IP that’s been added to your server a shared IP.

Let us know if that does the trick for you!
