Can Virtualmin work with PHP 7.4 and MySQL 5.7?

My PHP app is running on MySQL 5.7.44 and PHP 7.4. Can the latest version of Virtualmin support this setup?

Hello,

Thanks for reaching out!

Currently, our Grade A supported systems are:

  • Debian 11 and 12 on i386 and amd64
  • Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and 24.04 LTS on i386 and amd64
  • Rocky, Alma, and RHEL 8 and 9 on x86_64

Grade A systems come with an automatic install script, reliable update repos, and work right away on a fresh system.

MySQL 5.7 is still found in some old releases but is now end of life. Newer systems use MariaDB 10.x instead.

Virtualmin works fine with both MySQL and MariaDB, any version, but it’s best to stick with what your OS provides.

If you really need MySQL 5.7, you could use Debian 10, though it’s no longer supported (EOL). It’s better to update your app so it runs on the latest OS.

DO NOT TRY AND RUN/ADD VIRTUALMIN TO AN EXISTING SERVER!

Your question kinda makes me think this might be what you are thinking of.

Depending on the Distro you choose, either Sury or Remi distros may, or may not have, PHP 7.4.
