Please show the output of this command.
i performed a fresh re installation, now everything is ok, it was giving an error failed to start mariadb service when i was starting mariadb server. and in virtualmin it was giving access denied error.
I realize server problems can be frustrating, but in the future please try and remember, we are all here because we are trying to make the software better. If we run into a problem we try and give thorough answers to the questions asked so others can help and/or validate the problem. If the people writing the code can’t reproduce it on a test bed then they rely on us to help track down the source of the problem.
Maybe no one else bothers to change the password because they don’t want one more to deal with? We don’t know.
That’s not a reasonable conclusion to come to. That’s just a wild thing to do, and doesn’t even solve the problem! (Nor does it lose data, unless you mean “reinstall the whole OS and then install Virtualmin” when you say “reinstall Virtualmin”, but that would also be an absurd thing to do in response to an authentication error.)
That’s not a crash.
The error above was clear. Authentication failure. From what I’ve read looking at this it is an easy fix. OP just got flustered.
whenever i will be free i will make a video of entire process from beginning to show you everything.
if mariadb server is not starting, and you cant change the root password, you cant put it in safe mode, you cant restart it, you cant do anything, cant access data so it is called crashed. not web server but mariadb database server. however we can access mysql core fpm files to recover data. but normal users dont have advanced knowledge to do this.
That would be a dramatic situation. But, I don’t see how Virtualmin could make that happen.
We really would need you to show us how to reproduce it, because I’ve never seen it and haven’t heard of anyone having that problem.
What error do you get when you try to start mariadb in safe mode? And, what command(s) did you run to start it in safe mode?
authentication failure by virtualmin,
what is that easy fix tell me ? no solution is working except what i said. dont change root pass during post installation and disable or remove mariadb root password changing field.
next time i will do it in empty server and will give you user login details to you to test it.
you didnt get the issue thats why you have not fixed it yet.
i have 16 years experience in this field and have delivered more than 5000 projects.
sudo mysqld_safe --skip-grant-tables --skip-networking &
Way too many inconsistencies if you go back and check. But, what I quoted here is enough.
They’re not a bot.
Yeah, I deleted that.
And what error do you get when running that command?
But claiming to lose all sorts of valuable data post install? Was this a fresh install?
Solutions:
1: solution by you for all users- remove mysql mariab root password changing field in post installation secition or disable it so that new users will not be able to change the mariadb root password and they will not have this problem.
2. solution for users- do not change the mysql mariadb password during post installation keep it un changed default. dont tick checkbox below it. (until they fix the bug)
3. solution after you mistakenly changed the password during post installation: take backup of mysql frm files in file manager and do a clean and fresh installation of virtualmin and dont do above mistake again.
I use change password in post nearly every time I’ve installed Virtualmin, so I disagree with that!!!
What OS? I doubt the sql changes but the op was on Debian 12.
debian 12, it is just 1 below latest version debian 13. latest version was giving cloudinit conflict problem because of that i was not able to use firewall so i reinstalled debian 12. OS should not be an issue.
I was asking @stefan1959 since he uses the feature without problem.
@ravikantbpl What keyboard do you use? I know some Kicad users have problems remapping hot keys because of, well let’s say ‘non-english’ standard keyboards. I wonder if you could have inadvertently entered an illegal character? Wild guess, but…
