The FTP backup function only seems to work when the FTP server has TLS disabled. Is TLS not supported for FTP backup connections?
With all due respect, but a proper issue reporting should include as follows
-
details about the operating system, the Virtualmin/Webmin variant
-
steps to reproduce the issue
When you use “seems” in the phrase, it is obvious that you are not sure that it is a problem. Because someone will devote time of his life to check and find a solution, this effort should be properly appreciated with the right information.
Alma 9.2, latest virtualmin.
Surely the developer knows if it is supported.
It happens when you create a backup with a TLS enabled ftp server, it works when TLS is disabled.
I wil try with a different server.
When TLS is enabled on my router FTP it comes back with connection failed with QUIT command and with other remote proftpd server with SSL required on it says:
Failed to connect to FTP server : PWD failed : SSL/TLS required on the control channel
When TLS is disabled it works with router FTP and remote proFTPD.
I am sorry to say, I need a translator for your message. That’s not how a report is made. I hope someone else can help you.
I configured an s3 bucket as an alternative.
Most likely one of the issues is that there are few CLI clients for ftp with ssl/tls support
Is ssh/scp not an option? I don’t actually know if the FTP target can do TLS, as I’ve never used FTP for anything, but I would guess it probably literally uses the ftp
command, which I doubt supports TLS.
Yea thats what I believe too.
I think I will do it unencrypted, it is within the LAN anyway. Or stay on amazon s3, I dont have large files so the cost will be low.
Thanks.
Yeah, S3 (and some of the third-party S3-compatible providers) are quite affordable, especially if you just dump data there and never do anything with it.
