Hello,

Yesterday upon checking out the Awstats for a site via Virtualmin as I’ve been doing through out the years with no problems, yesterday however the Awstats webpage produces all zeros for some reason. I’ve been trying to find a solution to this but so far nothing. This is the first time this has ever happened.

When generating the report via the Awstats Config in Virtualmin, it producers no errors whatsoever. Everything seems to be in working order. It’s only when viewing the results in the Awstats web UI that shows no results, just all zeros. To get an idea of what I’m experiencing, see these links:

The user in the first link offers a solution it appears but I’m not sure how to implement it or if it’s even the right solution for me.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

just spitballing here – does the nightly run execute under the virtual server owner userid (or do they all run under root, I forget)? if so – could the apache logs that are being analyzed not be readable anymore by that userid?

Hi verne, thanks for writing. It appears the nightly run executes under root.

The files generated by AWstats can be found in /home/[domain_owner]/awstats. Please check this directory if there are recent files named awstatsMMYYYY.domain.tld.txt or awstatsMMYYYY.www.domain.tld.txt and when they were created. If they have a size greater than zero, it means that they collected information.

Check in the browser if that log file is loaded. Pay attention to the URL because there is a difference between www.domain.tld/awstats/awstats.pl and domain.tld/awstats/awstats.pl if two files with different content are generated and not one with a symbolic link.

You should insert the Update Now button on the page, by manually editing the AWstats configuration file, as far as I know Virtualmin has omitted this feature to be done in the UI. It allows you to update in real time.

Also check that the permissions on these files are not somehow associated with root.

Hi ADDISON74,

Thank you for writing.

For the awstats configuration files located in /etc/awstats, is the ‘owner’ for the config files suppose to be ‘root’ or the virtual server owner? I’m seeing root.

Also the permissions are set to 0644.

Also the generated files that can be found in /home/domain_owner/awstats, the owner for the files there are root as well. The permissions are 0644.
