After Virtualmin Pro Upgrade Questions

SYSTEM INFORMATION
OS type and version Ubuntu Linux 20.04.3
Webmin version 1.984
Virtualmin version 6.17-3 Pro

Just upgraded to VM Pro and have a couple questions…

  1. I see a new “Virtualmin Password Recovery” feature. Is there a way to disable this?
  2. When trying to enable the “Virtualmin Analytics” server plugin, I get the following error: " Failed to save enabled features : The plugin Analytics Tracking cannot be used : Apache’s mod_perl version 2 must be installed". Is this expected?
  3. Is it safe to delete the “anonymous” users in Webmin Users? I have no need for animus users.

Yes, by going to Webmin ⇾ Webmin Users: Edit Webmin User and disabling it in available modules tab. Also you could simply uninstall it by running:

apt-get remove webmin-virtualmin-password-recovery

Yes,. This can be fixed by installing it by running:

apt-get install libapache2-mod-perl2

Is it safe to delete the “anonymous” users in Webmin Users? I have no need for animus users.

Try uninstalling webmin-virtualmin-password-recovery package. If it doesn’t cleared up upon uninstallation, just delete it later manually from Webmin ⇾ Webmin Users: Edit Webmin User module.

For your information, with Virtualmin 7 release those modules will no long be installed and only Virtualmin GPL to Pro package will be upgraded to keep it clean and simple!

When can we expect the v7 release?

There is no ETA but soon. Please be patient

Roger… I only ask because if its soon I wont bother uninstalling packages and wait for the update. If we are talking a year or something then I’ll uninstall these…

Thanks

The update won’t uninstall the packages. That would be potentially breaking for folks who are using any of the extras. So, feel free to uninstall the ones you don’t need. I don’t know why that big list of packages was even in there as part of the Pro upgrade. Just an accident of history that it stuck around into Virtualmin 6.

Guess I misunderstand LLia’s post “with Virtualmin 7 release those modules will no long be installed” I thought meant they are being removed from Virtualmin…

It means they will no longer be installed. Your system already has them installed. They will not be automatically uninstalled.

Ok got it… Thanks

Well I ran and removed the password feature:

apt-get remove webmin-virtualmin-password-recovery

…and I still see the “Forgot your password?” on the login screens.

The configuration file probably still exists.

But, you can always disable features and plugins in the Features and Plugins page.

There is no ‘password recovery’ Featue/Plugin. Where would the configuration file be located?
