have you setup dmarc yet ? I see
you have used
to ensure that dkim is signed for ?
Send a email to a gmail account if you have one and see if that bounces, there bounces give useful info as well.
VM will add that record if enabled
Note that is this a sub server those options are not available, but I guess are edited in the parent server ?
DKIM wasnât setup, I didnât know that was needed after an installation. Canât recall the question ever being asked. Anyways, Is setup now:
I set DMARC record enabled for the decentraalinternet.nl domain:
@jimr1 DMARC was created by virtualmin for that domain, it shows:
Current result from a testmail to (a very old) Gm⊠(Iâm not allowed to say the G-word )
you now have no ptr record you need to set that up
But where. I figured since itâs complainign about the IP, and the IP is supposed to point to host1.hostservice.nl, I added these:
First only with mail.host1⊠that didnât work so I added just host1âŠthat doesnât work either.
But all this is setup in the DNS settings from the server that runs hostservice.nl. (Server A in the initial post)
The ptr record may only be able to be edited at your provider and not via virtualmin/webmin depends on your provider
In principle I can control everything. Both the provider at the DC issuing the IP series to me as well as the hosting provider where (temporarily, until we get virtualmin working) a couple of domains and websites are running incl hostservice.nl
Thereâs two things I notice; first of all Gmail is reporting the IPv6 address as the address without PTR, am I seeing that correct? I can remove all IPv6 references on the host1.hostservice.nl domain if that helps.
Secondly, I would think that both IPâs point to the virtualmin instance that listens to host1.hostservice.nl. I can imagine the PTR records need to be at the virtualmin side? However, the virtual server that was created for host1.hostservice.nl doesnât have DNS settings (anymore). Would it make sense o enable DNS again on that virtual server?
Doesnât seem to make a difference.
This next comment is not meant in a negative way; if itâs this hard to setup virtualmin as a serious webhostingpanel it wouldnât be used much I guess. So, I must be doing something outside of what the virtualmin creaters were anticipating. It shoudl all work out of the box. What am I doing different than others?
Ah, good one. Could you please confirm that it should not matter if the DNS for the domain hostservice.nl (and host1.hostservice.nl) run on a different server, but only âpointâ to 172.251.27.27?
It doesnât really matter, but it has to be configured well either way. And it should be noted that it is configured slightly differently for each of these situations. Maybe donât have setting ptr for ipv6 address. You can permanently disable ipv6, if you donât wantâs use it.
Sorry all, in an attempt to fix it all I messed it up so much the VM wouldnât even reboot anymore. Back to square one. Will attempt a fresh install later this week, at least without ipv6 this time.
Where DNS runs is irrelevant (I mean, it matters to you since you have to configure and maintain it, but it does not matter to the internet or any service that interacts with your servers).
Ok, new chapter. Fresh install. IP moved to 178.251.27.24.
I avoided IPv6 to avoid that problem.
At a fresh install I see this:
I think I need to get rid of that ens3 somehow since it now creates all vertual servers at this 10.x address.
Also, as I mentioned, 178.251.27.1 is a router in that entire block of IP adresses.
When I do the settings check I get:
I tried disabling ens3 but when doing the check it activates it again. I tried deleting it before, but a reboot it wouldnât come back up. So, the main question; what do i set after a fresh install so it only uses 178.251.27.24 for all?
PS. rememer ens 3 is actually physically connected to this server and used for other communication. It should be ignored by virtualmin
didnât we do this here ? Https website unreachable - #60 by jimr1
Yes, But I canât get it done again. it seems now that I only selected IPv4, if I select eth 0 for instance and het the âdelete Selctedâ it actually deletes all. Maybe this is a bug? when rebooting the VM doesn;t even come up again and I had to do a fresh install again.
And when I try to de-activate ens3 it activates by itself again.
What surprise sme even more; with the above setting in tact I generated a virtuasl server and for some reason the DNS for that domain shows the IP address of the router again (178.251.27.1).
So I figurered Iâm maybe looking in the wrong place?
What has that got to do with what we did before ?
Ok, after several reinstallations I finally feel Iâm getting closer. I haven;t even got to the e-mail part yet, but I have one little issue left that I canât seems to find. When creating an ewn virtual server it continues wanting to pick the wrong adress of its DNS options.
When I selected Same as Real Address here, it works correct. But nowhere in the default package or server template I can find where to force it to use that option when creating every future virtual server. Especially when this is done by WHMCS in the future I need it as a default setting. Where would I set that?
