Webmin wont start, no logs, used to work

Used to work, can log into ssh but not webmin/virtualmin

root@vps:~# /etc/init.d/webmin start
root@vps:~# /etc/init.d/webmin status
Webmin is stopped

not creating/updating file: /var/webmin/miniserv.log

how can i find out why it wont start ?

got it going with: sh /etc/webmin/start
