Web based DNS validation failed when requesting wildcard certificate

Operating system: Ubuntu
OS version: 20.04 LTS

I am trying to get wildcard certificate for my domains. However, every time it throws me the DNS validation error. I am hosting my dns locally. I am running LEMP stack.

I tend to also get DNS validation errors with wildcard requests on some of my virtualservers (DNS controlled by Webmin). In my case it’s the Rewrite directives in the .htaccess file that are causing the problem (still have to get round to fixing them). If I temporarily remove the .htaccess file the wildcard cert renewal goes through.

I’m unfamiliar with nginx but perhaps there’s something similar going on there.
