Good afternoon to you all. I have the following warning message today on my webdmin panel: Warning!
Recent package updates (such as a new kernel version) require a reboot to be fully applied.
The server is a vps from hetzner. I have never updated the kernel and the kernel version Linux 6.8.0-51-generic on x86_64 it shows up on webdmin system information is the same as it was on the first setup on month ago. I had a snapshot(one month ago) that i installed today to a second vps to be able to compare the kernel versions.
I saw many posts about this warning on various websites and i am afraid that if i reboot i maybe will loose access to virtualmin.
If Ubuntu has pushed out an upgrade it should be safe. I’m not sure where you heard you would lose access to Virtualmin but that is almost certainly nonsense. Most providers have a backend process for logging into a server you lose contact with. You might want to check that out and become familiar with it regardless.
What makes you believe you have the same problem discussed in that post? This is a weird thread. There is nothing about that thread that should make you think that’s a thing that happens often.
Upgrading a system using OS-provided packages is a normal thing to do. It is unusual for something to go wrong.
If something goes wrong, ask for help. But, there is no reason to discuss a normal thing behaving normally.
