I have been a loyal user of the Webmin/Virtualmin/Cloudmin stack for many years to help me manage the physical servers (actually mostly VPSs) in my organization and my clients.
For probably 8-10 years, I’ve paid for a minimal Cloudmin PRO license (through various businesses), so that I can manage unlimited “physical” servers. Having returned to my business after taking a break due to illness, I have been evaluating other control panels (hestia/ISPconfig/CloudPanel/etc.) for hosting purposes, but I keep coming back to Virtualmin.
While I’ve always used Virtualmin GPL, I’d like to purchase Virtualmin PRO, but from what I’ve read on these forums, the product is licensed per server instance. You do not have a plan where you can aggregate, for example, the 50 domain plan and spread those domains across multiple servers. Is this something you’re considering adding in the future?
Purchasing several instances of Virtualmin PRO would not be economically viable for my small business, especially because several of my clients are non-profits, and I already give them a discount on their management services.
If I purchase a single license of Virtualmin PRO for my work/master server, and then move servers to other instances that run GPL, is this supported?
I want to support your projects, as they’ve helped me tremendously over the past 13-15 years. You may want to consider adding a licensing option such as the one I mentioned earlier. There’s a few ways you could do this - develop a portal that generates license keys (up to the purchased total) where the client (me) could adjust the domains per key/server, up to the purchased maximum. Or develop logic that allows multiple uses of one license key, provided the number of domains does not exceed the purchased total. IMO, this type of licensing could even be priced at a reasonable premium to the single-server plans. I’d pay a reasonable additional amount for that flexibility.
Thank you all on the Webmin/Virtualmin/Cloudmin team for the work you have done and continue to do!
