Virtualmin GPL fails to install on Debian 5.0

Hi there!
I freshly installed debian lenny as a vserver, and tried to install Virtualmin GPL with the install script.
Unfortunately the installation locks up at some point, when trying to setup the Webmin theme…
Here’s the tail of the virtualmin install logfile:

Setting up apache2-suexec-custom (2.2.9-10+lenny8) …

Configuration file `/etc/apache2/suexec/www-data’, does not exist on system.
Installing new config file as you request.
Setting up virtualmin-base (1.0-25) …
Setting Webmin theme

it stays here and is doing nothing.

What could be the problem?

Hmm… yeah, there’s still a number of additional steps it would typically do after that. The next one should be “Setting Usermin theme”.

How long does it sit at that point? You may want it to sit for at least 10-15 minutes.

During that time, do you see any processes running that pertain to the installation?

it stays there for eternity.
i wiped out the vm and tried installing cloudmin gpl, with similar results

Setting up webmin-security-updates (4.1) ... security-updates Setting up webmin-server-manager (5.1.gpl) ... server-manager

it styed there for the past minutes apparently doing nothing…

The high amount of fastrpc.cgi processes semes odd to me

i am starting to suspect that this problem could have something to do with the POS firewall script some admin put on that machine… will check that tomorrow

oh dear, he was firewalling localhost! i will kill him tomorrow.

lol big fail, actually i still have some problems, cloudmin is unable to detect its own status… but i guess i will sort that out as well… why that guy chose linux-vservers and wrote his own iptables script given that he obviously no idea of what he was doing is beyond my understanding :stuck_out_tongue:
