Virtualmin default page with no website, Login to Virtualmin link question

I’ve set up Virtualmin, have one domain, the default page appears as I have no website/home directory. On the default page, a Login to Virtualmin link appears.

My question is: should the Login to Virtualmin link actually link to the domainname.com.au:10000 or the ip address 10x.xx.xx.xxx:10000 ?

Mine is linking to my IP address and if I click the login link it warns me about an unsecure site.

Have I configured something in DNS incorrectly?

If you hit advanced you can get to the interface and configure the SSL certificate. Not sure about the host name thing though. The link by address is probably a safe choice from the developer’s point of view because it will always work.

Is this machine reachable from the outside? I’m asking because of the 10 dot network. That will make a difference in the SSL you can set up.

Hi

Yes, machine is in the cloud, IP actually starts with 103

To get around the IP address link, I simply edited the default page and set it to the host name.

Thought it best to mention it in case it’s a bug - or an issue in my settings.

Ah. I see. External address is different from the internal address so the link is invalid if not on the same internal network.

Also realize that this is the default OS setting site. Mostly, no one will end up on that page. (well depending on what you want to do) VM is for setting up virtual servers in the /home as you referenced above.

hmmm maybe I have done something wrong.

The one domain, let’s say example.com.au is how I access the virtualmin GUI, ie
https://example.com.au:10000

If I try https://hostname.example.com.au I get the unsecured message too.
