Upgrading Servers

We’ve upgraded two of our 3 servers from 18.04 to 20.04 without issue. The remaining server we have been trying to upgrade for a month directly to 22.04 which is now available. This server is only used for mail with around 300 mailboxes. When we backup the old , with “all features” selected and then restore to the fresh install of 22.04, the “homes” directory is there but has none of the users files or users listed under system | users. Everything else seems to be there. Do you know why this might be?

Wondering if this could be because the server template is set to username@domain when our old server is set to username.domain

Maybe a bad restore, template should only effect the way things are created I would think.
Maybe Virtualmin Configuration might effect things.

We’ve done this twice with the same result. Any issues with jumping 2 OS versions like this?
Would this go smoother if we just run the old server through the upgrade process within Ubuntu.
Since there’s no websites involved, should we just transfer the users and homes directories alone?
With 300 mailboxes, we want to minimize downtime.

This ended up a mysql backup on the old server going to a MariaDB restore, and the result was incompatible. We eliminated MySQL from the backup and then it went smoothly.
