I need PHP 5.2.4 to run Joomal 1.6. How can I find out which version of PHP I am running and how can I upgrade it. I am not Linux savvy, a beginner.

Which Linux distribution are you running?
If it’s CentOS, that comes with PHP 5.1.6 by default, but you can use the Virtualmin bleed repo to upgrade to a newer PHP version:
