New to virtualmin
I tried installing phpmyadmin with the top level radio button. I assumed that that meant phpmyadmin.mydomain.com…Wrong. It installed in my website directory. No big deal, it only over wrote my index.php file. I tried the uninstall script but that didnt work. I have all the phpmyadmin stuff in my main directory. Not sure if that uninstall is a bug or not. Just thought I would mention the confusion and subsequent consequences.

Thanks for letting us know! We’ll certainly review that to see if there’s a way to make that more clear.
The label for the field you’re referring to is “Install sub-directory under public_html” (meaning, that’s the directory within the current domain where phpMyAdmin would be installed).
The options there are either “At top level”, meaning in the public_html folder itself, or it’s possible to select a sub-directory off of public_html.
Do you have a thought as to some better wording we could use there? If it mentioned “Install into public_html”, would that help?

I don’t see the point in installing it in public_html directory unless someone wants to have a website for phpmyadmin such as stevesphpmyadmin.com.
I think it should be located either at myphpadmin.mydomain.com or mydomain.com/phpmyadmin, but definetly not stevesphpmyadmin.com IMHO
If you dont plan on changing anything then the wording should be
Install sub-directory Name [none] or [enter name]
Not to be rude but did you “READ” what phpmyadmin installer said? It states that it will overwrite files on the main folder if you installed at “top”.
It never mentioned it will create a subdomain for you. It says it will install on the selected “Virtual Server”.

Look its a point of confusion. I have never ever ever heard of anyone registering a domain name just to install phpmyadmin in the directory. And that goes back to 1996 when I signed up for my first hosting account. Its always been phpmyadmin.mydomain.com or mydomain.com/phpmyadmin.
Anyone here ever heard of phpmyadmin going into the main directory of a website?. Maybe its me, but it just seems like maybe 1 in 1000 might install phpmyadmin in the main directory of a domain name. My guess is it more like 1 in 10,000.

Yup, you certainly don’t need to register an additional domain name. And both of the ways you mentioned to access phpMyAdmin work just fine 
If you want to install phpmyadmin into a domain such as phpmyadmin.domain.com, just make a new domain with that name.
To do that, go into Virtualmin, and create either a Virtual Server, or a Sub-Server, with the name phpmyadmin.domain.com.
Then, you can install phpMyAdmin into the public_html folder of that newly created domain.
Or, if you prefer to access it as domain.com/phpmyadmin – what you can do is install phpMyAdmin into a subfolder off of your domain “domain.com”.
