Trying to update php version from 7.2 to at least 8.0

This doesn’t make sense.

You’re trying to get packages for dist of 18.04.6, but that is not a dist name. The dist name for your version of Ubuntu is bionic. I don’t even know how you got here.

Following our multiple PHP docs doesn’t end up here.

There is (obviously) no dist named 18.04.6 in the ondrej PHP PPA repo.

i was going to remove ppa repository but found this when i wrote

root@power99:~# ls /etc/apt/sources.list.d
mc3man-ubuntu-trusty-media-bionic.list ondrej-ubuntu-php-bionic.list virtualmin.list
mc3man-ubuntu-trusty-media-bionic.list.save ondrej-ubuntu-php-bionic.list.save virtualmin.list.save

can you please explain what does it mean

What does what mean?

@Stegan @Joe @jimr1 @stefan1959 , i am really sorry, i know im teasing you guys alot but you know i have to get to the solution

the hostinger team asked me to read the article and it consist of two parts

i am attaching the screenshot of the second part, you will get the understand what i wanted to ask about

have you opened the file ondrej-ubuntu-php-bionic.list ? If not open it and show it’s contents here

That looks right

show this one and

/etc/apt/sources.list

remove the arrowed item

right, and wish i do not encounter any other error

Thanks Alot @jimr1

Great stuff, now see if you can install php8 :slight_smile:

@jimr1

you asked to me show the “ondrej-ubuntu-php-bionic.list” file and i uploaded the its screen shot in which you can see clearly that

“deb Index of /ondrej/php/ubuntu bionic main” is already in that file

@jimr1

here i would like to mention one thing, i am using Hostinger’s VPS & by default they have provided me with the php version 7.2.24 , so i cannot update it but i do have a choice to use multiphp, the question that i want to ask is

Will the process be same for using the multiphp, i mean using the same ppa repository to download the php version

@jimr1

i am almost near to the solution please don’t get offended

The OS provides php version not Hostinger, how old is this server as you should have installed a later version of Ubuntu
so can you run
apt-get install php8.1-{cgi,cli,fpm,pdo,gd,mbstring,mysqlnd,opcache,curl,xml,zip}

or
apt-get install php7.4-{cgi,cli,fpm,pdo,gd,mbstring,mysqlnd,opcache,curl,xml,zip}

@stefan1959
no unfortunately not
