Suggestion for Install Scripts section - OpenMage

For a while Virtualmin offered the opportunity to install Magento 1 shopping cart. In June 2020 Adobe decided to close this project and Magento 1 disappeared from Virtualmin too. In the meantime, after 3 years OpenMage managed to carry forward what Magento 1 was and it offers a solid solution to all those who remained attached to the initial platform. The project is led by an active and devoted community.

You can reconsider offering again this great shopping cart for installation from Virtualmin > Install Scripts section. Although Magento 2 was intended to be a modern platform, it will never reach the level of Magento 1 popularity, but that is another discussion.

Magento2 seems relatively active. I don’t know anything about either, so, could you explain why Magento2 isn’t a thing everyone using Magento wants to use?

At first sight Magento 2 appears as an active project. However, over 1600 issues and 863 open PRs with a corporation behind the project? Some of the issues are essential and have remained unresolved for a long time. The way of reporting the issues and especially the approach of some of the active members led me to detach myself and keep distance.

Magento 2 is quite different from Magento 1, very few good ideas have been kept and the transition is not exactly easy, for an experienced PHP programmer. Its complexity and the hardware resources requests made it abandoned by many who chose WooCommerce or Shopware. Migration, extensions, are services much more expensive than with Magento 1, where you can find almost anything with a simple search on the Internet.

Making a comparison between the two solutions is not the purpose of the post. In addition, what I stated is only a subjective opinion. The most important thing is that Magento 1 has a successful continuation through OpenMage. A medium-sized store, say 100.000 simple products, can be created and tested even in Windows using WSL, DDEV and PHPStorm, then moved to a production server managed by Webmin/Virtualmin.
