What is your current configuration in Virtualmin → System Settings → Virtualmin Configuration → SSL settings → “Share SSL Certificates between domains where possible” ?
This is the only thing that come to my mind with this issue
First of all, I would check the subdomain settings for the Lets Encrypt plugin to see if automatic request for certificates is enabled there. It is possible that the requested time has passed and the subdomain has automatically requested a certificate, which has subsequently overwritten your wildcard certificate.
If this is what happened, just deactivate automatic requests and request a new wildcard certificate in the domain - if you have activated “Share SSL Certificates between domains where possible” then the wildcard certificate issued by lets encrypt should be applied to this subdomain as well
Thank your the insight.
Actually I have a a non-Let’sEncrypt wildcard certificate for over 3 years (renewed every yr) now. Formerly the subservers show the certificate inheritance.I just discovered recently, by exident, that the certificates for the subservers had certificates of their own. These were in error. The subservers are not often used and primarily by myself for various (monitoring) purposes.
I really like to revert the inheritance , how can I achieve that?
As I said, there was only one thought that came to mind for this issue. I would recommend you to re-upload your wildcard certificate (If u didnt) manually for the given subdomain and monitor the behavior.
To find out why this happened, it is necessary to find out more information, such as what preceded this problem, when it happened and under what circumstances
More info will surely help to solve the issue. Unfortunately I can not tell you more about it. I added virtual-servers, added new (wildcard-)certs, added and removed (e-mail)users, etc.
Ending up in this situation (subserver using a dedicated LE cert). Hence my question; How to revert a subserver SSL config to again using the certificate of the parent server.
BTW. (what I wanted to prevent) but anyways I removed and added SSL from the subserver settings and they are now using the parent SSL again. Before adding I removed any residual ssl.* files from the home of the subserver.
