I’ve been facing an issue with SSL certificate renewal on my Virtualmin GPL server, and I’m seeking some guidance to troubleshoot and resolve the issue. Here’s a brief overview of the problem:

I recently noticed that the SSL certificate for one of my domains is about to expire, so I initiated the renewal process through the Virtualmin control panel. However, despite my efforts, the renewal seems to be failing, and the certificate remains expired.

I’ve checked the logs, and I couldn’t find any specific error messages related to the renewal process. The Let’s Encrypt logs don’t show any issues either. I’ve ensured that the domain’s DNS is correctly configured, and the domain itself is accessible.

I’d appreciate any insights or suggestions on how to troubleshoot this SSL certificate renewal issue with Virtualmin GPL. Are there any specific logs I should check or steps I might be missing in the renewal process?

“Seems to be failing”? If you’re doing the renewal manually, and it fails, you should see the error in the browser, which would tell you why it failed.

If it appears successful then it means Virtualmin is confused about where the cert should go. Maybe you’ve use certbot manually in the past?

  2. Use of certbot manually: I haven’t used certbot manually in the past for this particular domain. The certificate renewal process has been solely through the Virtualmin control panel.
