Software package updates messed up

Operating system: Debian Wheezy
OS version: Virtualmin 1.962

Hi all,

webmin sends me notifications about package updates of a Debian box.
Shows them also in GUI:

When I chose “Upgrade Selected Packages”, it (correctly) says, that there is nofin to update:

I do “Refresh Available Packages” it (wrongly) finds again some that need to be updated:

As root, I get nofin (except some old, probably unused) package:

:~# apt-get dist-upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Calculating upgrade... Done
The following packages have been kept back:
  libldap-2.4-2
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded.

Q: How can I tell webmin, that we don’t actually need to update anything at this time?

Can this section somehow be “reset”? Worked great before and since a couple of years now.

Many thanks,
~H.

Problem still persists; any proposals?

Cheers!

Uhm, you do know that Wheezy is EOL for 2,5 years already, right?
Not to say that is necessarily the root cause of your problem, but damn this is highly insecure if anything is public facing on this server.

I had a similar problem a few months ago. Normally, I never sit at the server, I use a laptop and do it remotely. When that problem happened I went to the physical server itself and restarted it from there as root.

When it came back up all the updates were gone. It’s not happened since.
