Shared email addresses, howto?

Dear sirs,

I made this observation in an organization, and I wondered how it was done:

By shared email addr, what I mean is this:

  • suppose I have support@mydomain as a forwarding addr, where it forwards to 5-user-addresses (each of them is part of the support group). Any incoming mail to support gets delivered to each of the 5-email addresses. Outgoing emails go out with each users identity.

I want to do the opposite: such that any outgoing mail from any of the 5-addresses goes out through support emailID… support@mydomain.

regards
TK

From: address is determined by the client, and can be independent of the username being used to authenticate. You can simply configure the web client (Thunderbird or whatever) to send from that address.

But, if you must do it on the server, Postfix can do it: Postfix Address Rewriting
