Question about incremental backups

Hi I’ve set up Virtualmin to make incremental backups and Webmin to do a full weekly Filesystem backup.

I just wanted to check this is the correct approach for a server with a lot of data stored.

Does Virtualmin recognise the Webmin Filesystem backup as an actual Full Backup, and then does its own incremental backups based on this, or do I have to make a Full Backup with Virtualmin before the Incremental backups work?

If so, then is weekly Filesystem backup not much use?

Howdy,

No, unfortunately, that likely would not work… when performing an incremental backup, I believe it only looks at successful full Virtualmin backups.

Some people use the filesystem backup for backing up /etc… then if something happens to your config files, you can get them back quickly.
