ProFTPd config'd by VM and MySQL

Is it possible to have ProFTPd configured by VM and to also have users verified against a MySQL table as well?

I want to continue having VM create users as usual but the ability to also have users that I can programmatically add from a web app into MySQL for FTP access with specific paths etc. Is that doable?

I would be interested in this myself.
More specifically, allow users to login using E-Mail Addresses which then give them access to a specific path or paths.
