Proftd error

when i start the proftpd server i get this error

  • Starting ftp server proftpd
  • warning: unable to determine IP address of ‘speeweb02.speedster-it.local’
  • error: no valid servers configured
  • Fatal: error processing configuration file ‘/etc/proftpd/proftpd.conf’

it just stopped working today

any help will be helpful

Any thoughts on what might have changed recently? A new hostname, different DNS, modifications to the /etc/hosts file?

I suspect the issue may come down to it not knowing how to resolve what “speeweb02.speedster-it.local” is, and if that’s true, a quick way to resolve it would be to add an entry for it in /etc/hosts.

That of course doesn’t figure out why it broke (or prevent it from happening again), that just gets your FTP server up and running again

As Eric has mentioned, your hostname is borked. A server must have a valid fully qualified domain name, or lots of things (mail, in particular, but as you’ve seen FTP also) will break.

nothing was changed.

but i added the host record and it works .
