Hello All, after 15 years with Webmin & Virtualmin, I went Pro 4 days ago (about time, but had to give back).

Just looking through my system logs today; Journalctl and noticed this:

time=“2026-09-14T17:17:16-04:00” level=error msg=“cannot find UID/GID for user johndunhamsociety: no subuid ranges found for user "johndunhamsociety" in /etc/subuid - check rootless mode in man pages.”

Since I am new to Virtualmin Pro I looked up the Podman plugin and saw what it did however, I am not ready to get into that as I am using Webmin/Virtualmin only for my own personal projects.

So I did go to Virtualmin/Settings/Features and Plugins and I UNCHECKED both Podman Containers & WP Workbench.

I would still like to know if this is an identifiable issue and if I need to worry about it - and should I RE-CHECK those two in Features and Plugins?

Thanks!

The benefits of pro is you can get support. Might be best to raise a ticket and staff can have a look.

Thank you stefan1959 - I saw that new link - I’ll give it a go!

Hello,

Thanks for supporting Virtualmin and reporting this!

Our Podman plugin enables a startup podman-restart.service for all users. Podman can log this error even for accounts with no containers.

In that case, and all my tests showed it was totally harmless.

Since you don’t use containers, you can disable this automatic startup by running as root:

systemctl --global disable podman-restart.service

Unchecking the plugin alone doesn’t remove that startup setting.

WP Workbench is unrelated and can be enabled independently.
