PHP issue?

Hey Everybody,

I have virtual min up and running (so I thought). I can install/uninstall, Create and delete virtual servers.
I thought I had it correct. Time to start building a site. I am lazy so I import data from csv files.
with a joomla csv import program.

Symptoms, Super slow import data with all browsers, even direct LAN connection.
What would usually take me +/- 40 seconds to import with my old $5 a month host
takes literally 10 minutes and always gives an error.

I get:
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, [no address given] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Which is probably common so I check the error logs and find:
[error] [client 192.168.1.100] Premature end of script headers: index.php, referer: http://192.168.1.150/administrator/index.php

Looking into “Premature end of script headers” I am told check the suexec.log which tells me:
I have many of these entries:
uid: (1005/koko) gid: (1005/koko) cmd: php5.fcgi

This is completely beyond me. Can someone explain this in baby talk!

Thank you for your time!

Adrian

What exactly does “importing data from csv files, with a Joomla import program” mean? What exactly is imported there, how and where?

Hey Locutus,
Thanks for your time.
I have a database driven Content Management System Called ZOO.
ZOO has an option to upload data from a csv file.
Simple example:

Name
1
2
3
4
5
6
7
8

The program imports 8 Entries named
1
2
3
4
5
6
7
8

When you are trying to do 3500 it saves a lot of time, but I usually crash after about 50
it’s random though sometimes 38 records sometimes 52,47 and so on. The I have to delete the records,
which takes for ever as well. On my ole cheap host I could delete 50 records in like 10 seconds. it takes close to 3-4 minutes now. I must have some setting incorrect but have absolutely no clue where to start.
I also noticed that if I refresh my page often like 5-8 times in a row it will time out with a server error.

Hope this gives you some more insight.

Adrian

Sounds to me like some PHP script is using lots of resources / CPU time or similar, needing forever to complete. You could check system resources (“atop” in an SSH login) while doing those requests, and watch logfiles, to see if anything produces CPU load. Or maybe it tries to allocate too much memory, or times out doing DNS requests or something.

Wild guesses here, since I don’t know your system or software. What kind of server is that? Virtual or physical? OpenVZ by chance?

Hey Locutus,

Thanks again for your effort, I set up an Ubuntu Server running virtualmin. If you want I can shoot you the passwords. The site I am setting up is is www.kokobaba.com. refresh the page like 10 times in a row and your bound to get an error. This is the first server I ever set up. I wonder if I have the permissions correct. I don’t think the system is spiking with cpu usage.

Please take a look if you could, like I said it is very far beyond me.
Thank you again!

Adrian

It’s late in the evening here right now, but I can take a look at it tomorrow. Please contact me via instant messenger, Skype (Loc2262) or XMPP (frank@tianet.de) preferred, or ICQ 15325926.

Can you answer my question about what kind of server this is?

Howdy,

Are you using a VPS? If so, is it OpenVZ? That will help Locutus in being able to troubleshoot your issue.

However, one note is that sometimes, the Internal Server Error you received can sometimes occur because a process is taking too long to run.

This is a bit of a shot in the dark, but you could always try increasing the PHP timeout that’s being used.

To do that, go into Server Configuration -> Website Options, and in there, you could try increasing the value being used for “Maximum PHP script run time”.

Hey Locutus,
send me a quick e-mail: adrianboogaard@hotmail.com so i can send you the info.

I am an old guy and have none of these:
Skype (Loc2262) or XMPP (frank@tianet.de) preferred, or ICQ 15325926

I gave up waiting and destroyed 3 weeks of work,
Renistalleled the complete ubuntu server software software.
have a fresh copy of virtual min installed.

I have One site working - www.kokobaba.com

others will not work - www.kokospot.com

www.steampunkcalgary.com

I’m sorry, but this won’t work without a very direct means of communication, i.e. an instant messenger. We might also need Teamviewer so that you can demonstrate the problem directly. Since i don’t know how your system is set up and what exactly you’re trying to do and what the problem is.

You also still haven’t answered the question yet whether you have a physical or virtual server, and if it’s using OpenVZ.

The server is on my desk so i think it is physical, i have never heard of open VZ so i do not think i am using it.
i will look into team viewer and on of your metioned communication methods.

I do thank you for your time!

Adrian

Yes, if it’s sitting on your desk, it’s definitely physical. Contact me via IM when you set one up!

Will contact you soon!
Adrian

Skype does not know you!
