Milter-Greylist.sock Error

I am seeing a consistent error in my maillog.

Oct 26 16:25:15 kappa2 postfix/smtpd[14386]: warning: connect to Milter service local:/var/run/milter-greylist/milter-greylist.sock: No such file or directory

I’ve tried researching this but not finding a definitive resolution. Any one seen this before? I do have greylisting enabled.

Howdy,

Hmm, did you perhaps attempt to setup email rate limiting at some point?

It sounds like Postfix is trying to connect to the Milter Greylist service, but it doesn’t appear to be running.

Wow I don’t know why I didn’t check for that service. It was disabled at boot and turned off. I started that service and enabled it at boot. I did have global rate limiting enabled at one point, but it is currently disabled. Does this affect anything?

Howdy,

Rate limiting isn’t necessary, it’s an optional feature that is disabled by default.

If you don’t want/need that, then it’s no problem to disable it.

It sounds like Postfix was still configured to use that particular service though. If that’s not what you want, you could edit the Postfix config, and remove any attempt to communicate with “milter-greylist”.
