Link 2-VMIN servers together for purposes of common user account management

Dear sirs,

Can 2-VMIN servers be linked together such that if a user account is created/managed on the first, it automatically gets created/managed in the second?

Lets say the first is a mail server and the second is for storage purposes…such that users wont be buckled down with different usernames / passwords across servers.

Generally, the right solution for shared users across multiple systems is LDAP, which Virtualmin supports, though it looks lie our docs for that haven’t been updated in a long time. Virtualmin can work with most LDAP servers, though, you don’t have to set it up with exactly like our example OpenLDAP deployment covered in the docs.

Webmin also has a user sync feature in the Cluster category, which I’m pretty sure can be used with Virtualmin users, too. But, it should be noted, not Virtualmin domains. You’ve only asked about users, though, so that should be fine.Virtualmin domains are special case, and are not just a user…I believe you can have Webmin create new users at the same time Virtualmin creates them, and with the same password, but it wouldn’t be like a clustered Virtualmin type deployment, that’s a whole other kettle of fish.

I haven’t actually done the Webmin Cluster Users thing, though, so I’m not 100% sure it’ll Just Work with Virtualmin users.

Worst case, you could write simple script to create the users on other servers as part of Virtualmin’s post scripts (whenever Virtualmin does stuff with users, you can run a script and do whatever custom stuff you want to do related to that user…people use it to create billing accounts on other systems, or trigger outside DNS server activity, or install custom software into the domain, etc.).
