Licensing question.

To the Virtualmin Staff, <-ONLY->

I purchased Virtualmin Pro. I only have 4 virtual servers on the box I have it installed on. Am I able to install the Virtualmin on another server as long as I don’t exceed my licensing of X domains?

Thanks.

No.

Licenses are issued per server, and pricing reflects an understanding that some people don’t need a lot of virtual servers on each system. That’s why, unlike some of our competitors, we offer many license “sizes”.

If price is a primary concern for you, you might consider Virtualmin GPL, depending on what your requirements are (e.g. whether you need Install Scripts, and some of the other Professional-only features). The Spam/AV stuff has been ported to GPL, so that is no longer a consideration (though the automatic setup isn’t quite in place yet).

Hope this helps with your plans.

I don’t require scripting, so I will give the GPL a shot. Thanks again Joe.

One more question. Due sub-domains count as domains? (as far as the licensing is concerned)

Due sub-domains count as domains?

It it’s an alias, no, if it’s a sub-server or virtual server, yes. (An alias is merely a pointer to an existing server, while a sub-server and virtual server have different content.)
