My suspended virtual servers are still counting towards my licensed domain count. Is this expected behaviour?
I have plenty of seats left so this is not an issue for me, but is this mentioned somewhere in the documentation what is applied againt your domain count.
Some users will need to know this so they can plan their servers and what license to buy. i.e. some people I know will just suspend an account and leave it a while before deleting it or a hobbyist keeps creating a new account to mess with and then disabled it rather than deleting.
I could not find a page dedicated to the license and its terms. Have I missed this? If I have not maybe there should be one with such information as
Active and suspend virtual servers count towards your licensed domains
When you hit your licensed limit your will nopt longer be able to create more virtual servers but nothing will stop working.
if you convert a GPL to a pro and you do not have enough seats your server admin will be in read only mode.
etc…
I know there are answers in the FAQ but maybe they should be moved to a license page along with my thoughts.
A small admin/documentation issue (not a gripe about cost etc…)
If the data is there, it counts. A suspended account is still all there, and can be turned on at any time. Thus, it counts.
I guess we could add that detail to the FAQ, but I don’t think it’s ever come up as a source of confusion.
There’s a reason each step up in license size is so cheap. We’re trying to make it really easy to just buy the amount of domains you need and not agonize over whether one extra domain you create is going to cause a serious money problem. For $2.50 (33%) more, you can go from 10 domains to 50. For 25% more than that, you can go from 50 to 100, and for 17% more than that you can go from 100 to 250, and for 33% more than that you can go to unlimited. There is no scenario where needing a couple more domains is going to be a dramatic cost increase. Our licenses are cheap, and upgrading is even cheaper.
I purchased 50 so I had enough spare and the jump from 10 to 50 made perfect sense to me.
One of the reasons this popped up is how WHMCS counts licenses for purposes of billing, it uses active accounts rather than number of accounts. I am not sure what cPanel uses.
I am not saying change to this model (at all) but just make it clear in documentation of the billing model you guys use so people don’t get mixed up and assume the same.
FAQ Item: Every virtual server, suspended or active will count towards you domain count.
NB: the number of license FAQ items lends itself to making a specific license page. You could also included any GPL license links etc here aswell..
