I have installed Jailkit on my Server and also activated the Chroot jail domain Unix user" and added the jailkit to webmin modules. For now we have “I have no name!@host:/home” how can we fix the i have no name to the username like with which i login?
Virtualmin comes with Jailkit why would you install it.
I do not guarantee that jailkit package installed from OS repository will work. Virtualmin team did a lot of custom stuff when they provided it years ago.
No, we only fixed a minor bug in our jailkit package and only on one platform. We use the distro jailkit package on Ubuntu and Debian, and I think the bug we’d fixed has been fixed in the EPEL package, as well.
OP needs to be more forthcoming about what they did, though, as it doesn’t sound like they have a standard setup. I haven’t seen this error.
virtualmin provides a lot of isolation — you may want to re-examine what you really need to do – perhaps you don’t need jailkit?
other posts suggest that jailkit takes a bit of work to set it all up – so if you don’t need, just save yourself that extra work.
Disclaimer – I have never set it up so have no personal experience.
Jailkit should Just Work in Virtualmin, in the most basic sense. You should be able to login with a chroot jailed user…however, lots of people misunderstand what a jail is, and are surprised to find that can’t do a lot of stuff when logged into the jail (or when their app is jailed).
For instance, sending mail using the sendmail
command only works in a jail if the admin has added the sendmail
command to the jail using the jailkit tools (or configuring it to be automatically added to jails on creation, either in the config file or using the Webmin Jailkit module). Any command that you want users to be able to use must be explicitly added to the jail. That’s the point of a jail, to explicitly restrict users in what they can and cannot do. Lots of folks just turn it on without realizing they need to understand it. I don’t know how to make it any easier without defeating the purpose of jails.
But, it continues to be true that we don’t know what OP did. It sounds like they have something unusual going on, since they say they installed Jailkit themselves (which isn’t necessary in a Virtualmin installation using the install script).
