Is MOD_REWRITE enabled by default?

Hi,

Is MOD_REWRITE enabled by default on new installations of virtualmin?
I have Ubuntu VPS and virtualmin - which is working great by the way.

I am asking because changing permalinks does not work for me in WordPress even though this should not be a problem with WP version 3.8.

I don’t know, but if you have a fresh installation, you can quickly check that out, right? Just take a look at the modules section in Webmin’s Apache module. Enabling it is a matter of two mouse clicks there.

Thank you for for prompt response.

Under modules I have module rewrite listed and enabled.
Does that mean that this is MOD_REWRITE and is enabled?

Because if it is, I don’t have a clue why changing permalinks doesn’t work.

Howdy,

Yes, under most circumstances mod_rewrite should be enabled by default.

If you attempt to use it, and it’s not enabled, it should throw an error.

If you’re trying to do something that’s not working, let us know what problem you’re seeing, and describe your configuration for us.

Yep, like Eric said: If you use directives from a mod that’s not enabled, Apache will throw errors when starting (and not start). You’d certainly have noticed that.
