Installation using proxy

Good day,
I have installed Virtualmin a few times on Digital Ocean Droplets before with no problems. This is the first time I am trying to install it on a server managed by my organisation’s IT department. By default this server does not have internet access, so I had to use a proxy to download virtualmin-install.sh, which worked fine. During the installation itself, however, I ran into the errors below. Any advice would be appreciated. Is this also linked to the network limitations or something else?

warning: virtualmin-gpl-release.noarch.rpm: Header V4 RSA/SHA256 Signature, key ID : NOKEY
error: can’t create transaction lock on /var/lib/rpm/.rpm.lock (Resource temporarily unavailable)
error: /etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-webmin: key 1 import failed.
error: can’t create transaction lock on /var/lib/rpm/.rpm.lock (Resource temporarily unavailable)
error: /etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-virtualmin-7: key 1 import failed.

Thank you in advance, JC

The Virtualmin will need internet access to install packages. I think you should take this up with Digital Ocean.

Or to be more precise your IT department (as it worked on Digital Ocean because their VMs have internet access)

Sounds like the proxy used to download was not set up to continue to be used during installation.

You cannot install Virtualmin without internet access.

Thanks, makes sense. And after installation, can the server then function (a) without internet access and/or (b) without being accessible from outside the intranet?

Close the ports in firewalld. Not 100% sure that will effect the intranet you may need create special rules.

Define “function”?

You need internet access to update software. If you want it to serve websites or any other services to the world, it obviously needs to have some ports forwarded to it.

As an intranet - yes
As a server to the wild mad internet - no
