I have tried this for hours in various ways, but without any progress.

What distro/version are you using?

And do you happen to have any third party repositories enabled?

It is a clean install of Ubuntu 12.10. I used the GPL version of Virtualmin but it is actually an upgrade of a current server using the paid version. There is nothing else installed except for RVM, which I used after the install failed.

Ah… unfortunately, Ubuntu 12.10 isn’t one of the supported distros. Only the Ubuntu LTS releases are supported, so the newest one would be 12.04.
