Don’t be lazy. Do a proper post.
Hi, not to be lazy. Will try and add some more details.
The current api allows
[--quota quota-for-domain|UNLIMITED]
[--uquota quota-for-unix-user|UNLIMITED]
Would be great if we could include option to set the soft/hard file limit that defaults to UNLIMITED
Quite possibly the same in the Edit Virtual Server screen under the Quotas and Limits Tab
See Disk Quaota/Edit User

Check What is "quota-for-domain" exactly (referenced in virtualmin create-domain help)?
seems like you can add limits
You can add the quote limit (kilobytes) but not the file limit (inodes)
so really a nice to have (a “Blue Sky” suggestion) that could well be popular - or on the other hand - not (or perhaps too difficult to implement)
I have asked for the quota and resources management to be upgraded (in the past) and current offerings are in only in Pro I think.
yes pretty good for file size under Webmin -> System -> Disk Quota -> User & Group (but inodes) ? not that clear (or I’m not looking in the correct place ![]()
i am not sure if Virtualmin pro does inodes, i might of asked for this in the past.
I agree with the fact we do not need Cagefs, or anything as complex (example or not) and the response to that seemed very negative and just about as complex. I was thinking more of a simple ha! alternative/addition to file size.
Joe read the thread wrong, I did not want the propriety CageFS but something similar on virtualmin
Apparently Jails are like this but I have no idea how to set this up. Like a lot Virtualmin there is no documentation. It is on my list to bungle my way through until I get the perfect setup.
Making each of a account/virtual server completely silo’ed from the rest of the server and having resource control on each of them is a must in today’s worlds and frankly it is much safer.
sure I got that.
but all the discussion about jails (really seems to be complicating the whole issue and I think irrelevant)
I do not believe that Quotas have anything to do with Jails they are a limit on resource use.
Quotas are part of the solution. They can be part of the jail as a hard limit.
