Another thought: Maybe the error is there for a long time, but with the latest updates the red error messages are just popping up. Not only with virtualmin but also with usermin. I saw in the changelog of the latest virtualmin that the bug with the popuop windows is fixed, but from my point if view, it isnt completely fixed.
Awww, not it gets clearer:
On login the dovecot process spawns user processes for the email user, which must belong to group dovecot to be able to read the socket ( it’s not usermin reading it i think ). As we don’t have a common group for all e-mail enabled user in virtualmin, it’s probably the best way to set others +rw on the socket.
