Hello! I’m having trouble updating Webmin. All other packages update normally, but the Webmin package doesn’t.
Current versions:
Webmin: 2.402
Authentic theme: 24.02
Terminal output:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
The following package was automatically installed and is no longer required:
libwayland-server0
Use 'apt autoremove' to remove it.
Recommended packages:
libdbd-mariadb-perl
The following packages will be upgraded:
webmin
1 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 27.4 MB of archives.

Get:1 https://download.webmin.com/download/newkey/repository stable/contrib amd64 webmin all 2.621 [27.4 MB]
Ign:1 https://download.webmin.com/download/newkey/repository stable/contrib amd64 webmin all 2.621
Get:1 https://download.webmin.com/download/newkey/repository stable/contrib amd64 webmin all 2.621 [27.4 MB]
Ign:1 https://download.webmin.com/download/newkey/repository stable/contrib amd64 webmin all 2.621
If everything else updates fine and only Webmin fails, that usually means your system and apt are. The problem is specific to reaching download.webmin.com.
The repeated Get: followed by Ign: is typical when apt can’t reliably download from that host (connection dropped, timed out, or blocked). If this happens consistently only with that domain, the most likely cause is a regional/ISP/network block or filtering of download.webmin.com (or its CDN route).
What to try (workarounds):
Try from a different network (mobile hotspot) to confirm it’s a network/region issue.
Use a VPN and re-run the update.
If you want to try Tor:
sudo apt install -y tor torsocks
sudo systemctl start tor
sudo torsocks apt update
sudo torsocks apt install --only-upgrade webmin
If Tor/VPN fixes it, that confirms it’s a routing/blocking issue to Webmin’s download server, not a Webmin package problem.

Tor:
sudo apt install -y tor torsocks
sudo systemctl start tor
sudo torsocks apt update
sudo torsocks apt install --only-upgrade webmin
Если через Tor или VPN обновление проходит, это подтверждает, что проблема в маршрутизации/блокировке доступа к серверу загрузки Webmin, а не в самом пакете Webmin.
Thank you for your quick reply. Unfortunately, all my attempts were unsuccessful. I tried to run the update process through TOR, but the connection on all repositories is 0%. I suppose my ISP is blocking TOR. Website is working download.webmin.com/download/newkey/repository/ through a browser. What else can I try? An alternative repository? Can I reinstall through the web interface?
That’s really unfortunate. I’m sorry to hear that.
Then you can try adding a new Webmin modular repository:
curl -fsSL https://rc.download.webmin.dev/install | sh -s -- webmin pre-release
However, note that it won’t include all the modules that come with the current full Webmin package, and you’ll need to install any required/desired Webmin modules manually (for example, apt-get install webmin-squid).
You can list all available Webmin modules in the modular repository by running dpkg -l webmin-*.
We also hope they’ll remove the block on our servers soon, as there’s no clear reason for it, so it’s likely collateral damage from broader, large-scale blocking.
One more thing you can try is to download the latest APT package from the Webmin GitHub releases page and install it manually.
Thank you! This tip helped me! I managed to update webmin! Hooray!
I apologize, I did not answer for a long time. This forum is also blocked in my country. I don’t know yet from which side the blocking is coming. Most likely, this is due to the fact that in my country there is a fight against VPN
