How to restore a users email from a file copy backup?

SYSTEM INFORMATION
OS type and version RHEL 9
Webmin version 2.202
Virtualmin version 7.20.2
Webserver version Apache

I accidentally deleted a user. I have recreated that user, but am now looking for a way to restore their email from a file copy backup,

Is this possible and if so, how?

Just copying the files then shows as a bunch of messages without topics or date etc.

Any help appreciated.

Could you explain what you mean by file copy backup?

It is possible to restore the mailbox if you have a copy of the /home/domain/homes/user directory.

Or also if the mail resides on a client - such as a PC - and if the POP protocol was being used.

It’s a file by file backup of the server, so I can go to /home/domain/homes/user/ folder.

I tried copying to no avail

Just changed ownership and it appears that all is well!

If the mail user is in the list of users of the virtual server and if you have restored all the files and directories under /home/domain/homes/user/ then it should work.

Oh, if you are using an email client like Outlook, it will show empty folders till you send an email to the mailbox. The moment a new email is received, the folders will show in Outlook all the old email that you have restored. Could you try this?
