How to avoid users to receive old emails if migrate from one server to another server

Dear Sir,

Virtualmin gives me a good impression to manage the accounts. However, some OS requires to upgrade a new version or I need to move the VM to another server. However, I experienced that old email will be received again (even one year old email) if I migrate the VM to another server. How can I avoid that?

I had to migrate my main server a couple of times recently and didn’t experience that (using IMAP). I followed the guide at https://www.virtualmin.com/documentation/system/migrate. What method did you use?
