Hi everyone, I got few newbie issues and hope to get some help here.
My box has two NICs, that eth1 is for my public IPs, and I needed to assign multiple IPs to eth1. I did a Google search and found some very brief guides on doing that via Webmin.
After some trying I seem to have gotten my virtual interfaces working, but I want to confirm that I really did set them up correctly, since I did encounter some issues while doing the setup.
At first I tried to add my virtual interfaces via:
Webmin CP --> Networking --> Network Configuration --> Network Interfaces --> Active Now --> eth1
and got two issues:
For {Netmask, MTU, Broadcast}, when I picked “automatically assigned” I got different values than the parent NIC, and those values didn’t work. For example:
Parents netmask = 255.255.255.248
Auto assigned = 255.255.255.0
So for all the virtual interfaces, I just use the same values as the parent’s, is that correct?
Also, when adding virtual interfaces as in the above, while I for sure did save the changes, yet those virtual interfaces just keep disappearing.
I then added them under the “Activated at Boot” and now them present under both “Active Now” and “Activated at Boot,” and they are working fine.
Why would those added virtual interfaces disappear? Is that “Active Now” is temporary for the current session only?
Last, a very newbie question that I hope people don’t mind.
For making a URL like:
MyDomain.org/SomeApp/Frontend/
to this:
Frontend.MyDomain.org/
If manually, I make a “/etc/httpd/conf.d/virtual.conf” file, but via Webmin, how should I do it?
Thanks in advance!!
